WESTCOAT ALX PRO
Certified Applicator

The Westcoat ALX Pro is a 5-step lath-reinforced deck waterproofing system — not a coating. It starts with elastomeric flashing at all details, then galvanized metal lath mechanically fastened across the full field, followed by a trowel-applied elastomeric membrane embedded into the lath, a sand-broadcast texture coat for slip resistance, and a UV-stable custom color finish. The lath-reinforced assembly bridges cracks, accommodates Colorado freeze-thaw movement, and is rated for continuous ponding water.

  • Elastomeric flashing & detail work
  • Metal lath reinforcement
  • Trowel-applied waterproof membrane
  • Slip-resistant texture broadcast
  • Custom UV-stable color finish

ALX Pro — Step 1

Flashing & Waterproof Detail Work

Every ALX Pro installation begins with flashing all termination edges, drains, penetrations, and transitions before any field membrane is applied. Westcoat EC-12 elastomeric flashing compound is troweled into all inside corners, coves, and wall-to-deck transitions to create a fully monolithic waterproof detail. Drain collars are set in flashing compound and all penetrations are sealed before the field work begins. This step is the most critical — improper flashing is the leading cause of deck waterproofing failures in Colorado.

Metal Lath Reinforcement

After flashing, 2.5 lb galvanized metal lath is mechanically fastened across the entire deck field. The lath serves as the structural reinforcement layer for the system — it locks the membrane to the substrate, distributes stress across the surface, and prevents the system from delaminating under Colorado freeze-thaw movement. Lath is lapped a minimum of 1" at all seams and turned up walls a minimum of 6". This step is what separates a professional ALX Pro installation from a paint-on coating — the lath-reinforced system can bridge cracks and accommodate substrate movement that would split an unreinforced membrane.

Elastomeric Waterproof Membrane

The Westcoat EC-11 elastomeric base coat is trowel-applied over the metal lath in two passes to fully embed the lath and create a seamless, monolithic waterproof membrane. The first pass forces the material into and through the lath openings; the second pass brings the surface to a uniform thickness of approximately 3/16". The cured membrane is 100% waterproof, elongates up to 300% before failure, and is rated for continuous ponding water. This is the primary waterproofing layer of the system — everything above it is finish; everything below it is structure.

Texture Broadcast Coat

Once the membrane has cured, a texture coat of Westcoat EC-48 acrylic finish is applied and silica sand is broadcast into the wet material to create a slip-resistant profile. Sand aggregate size is selected based on the application — finer aggregate for residential patios and balconies, coarser aggregate for pool decks and commercial walkways where maximum slip resistance is required. The texture coat also provides the mechanical bond surface for the final color topcoat. Slip resistance is tested and documented to meet ADA and local code requirements.

Custom Color Finish Coat

The final step is two coats of Westcoat EC-48 UV-stable acrylic finish in the client's chosen color. Westcoat's full color palette is available — from neutral concrete tones and warm sandstone shades to bold custom colors matched to architectural specifications. The finish coat seals the texture layer, provides the final waterproof cap, and delivers the long-term UV and weathering resistance the system is known for. At Colorado's elevation, UV degradation is significantly accelerated — the EC-48 formulation is specifically engineered for high-altitude sun exposure and resists chalking, fading, and surface erosion for 10–15 years under normal conditions.
